Left To Right: Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS, Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S, Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Great durability is one thing, but what about how a lens actually handles? This is an entirely different beast, and in the case of the Nikon 24-70 2.8 Z/S and its flagship-level competition, the operative word is definitely “beast”.
The Z 24-70 f/2.8 has benefits beyond simply a faster aperture. It's optically better than the f/4, but the f/4 is still excellent. The f/2.8 is useful for a shallow DOF you can't achieve with an f/4 lens. It is a faster lens, which will help with some low light situations.
At 35mm I threw in the 35mm f/2.8 AI manual-focus (1979-1981), which only cost me $25 used. At 50mm I threw in the current 50mm f/1.8 D (2002 - ) so you can see how well a $110 non-zoom works against these expensive pro zooms. At 70mm I threw in the awful 35-70mm f/3.3-4.5 AF so you can see how good all these other lenses really are by comparison.
A real workhorse, it took already some beatings and bumps. nothing no problem what so ever. In relation to it's predecessors, it's sharper and more importantly better flare resistant than the 35-70 and 28-70's. It's a typical reporters lens, works wonderful for reportage work. Michel.
Alternatives include the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD SP (ÂŁ679) and the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM (ÂŁ549). Looking further afield, for comparison, Canon users would perhaps be looking at
The Sigma Art series 24-70mm f/2.8 lens’s overall score of 31 on the Nikon D810 puts it 5 points behind the maker’s 24-35mm f/2, which is a noticeable margin. We expected the new lens to be closer. The two main third-party rivals from Tokina and Tamron share a similar overall level of optical quality, with the former boasting marginally

The Nikon Z 17-28mm f/2.8. This is an in-depth review of the Nikon Z 17-28mm f/2.8, which was announced in September of 2022. Although the Nikon Z 17-28mm f/2.8 is a wide-aperture zoom with a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8, it is not part of Nikon’s high-end “S-line,” and the MSRP of $1200 is less than half the price of Nikon’s Z 14
We paired the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f2.8 S with a Nikon Z7 running the latest version 2.0 firmware, and the lens acquired focus reasonably quickly. It is generally accurate throughout most of the
The Nikkor Z 24-70mm F/2.8 S houses two autofocus drive motors as part of Nikon’s new Multi-Focus system. Nikon says the upgrade allows for faster, more accurate autofocusing.
The two flower shots are not in sharp focus and no idea if it is the poor technique of the shooter or a problem with the lens. The FX 24-120mm is not even close to the FX 24-70mm f/2.8 at 24mm, 50mm and 70mm and this was obvious when I took a series of closeup shots with both lenses on a D850 of the same subjects.
